Campo dell'Anzolo Rafael, Dorsoduro
A quiet square, often empty, and happily overshadowed by the Chiesa dell'Angelo Raffaele with its two campanile, Baroque facades and paintings featuring lots of dogs (perhaps unexpectedly, Venice is a dog-friendly city). Sunday mass here remains a special, local occasion. The campanile of San Sebastiano waves over one end of the square. Although the campo seems isolated, there are shops and a vaporetto stop (San Basilio) close by.
Stop at: Pane Vino e San Daniele (0039 041 5237456). Warm and friendly corner restaurant; a long time favourite of artists, writers and teachers from the nearby university.
